Description of project
With my project I wanted to try and decide wether or not a law related job was right for me. First I needed to create an informative project that game information on the topic I chose. My topic i chose was Why juveniles should not be tried as adults. The first project i did was an animoto that incorporated information on exactly what it means for a juvenile to be charged as adults. Incorporated in this were examples of cases as well as information on why and what crimes juveniles are being chargedfor. My second project was a brouchure that containted the information i gathered to help prove my point of why it is wrong to charge juveniles as adults. This helped to show the point of views on both sides of the argument as well as to help persuade my audience to agree with me. The final product of my project was to do an internship at a local law firm. Luckily my family and i are close friends with a man who actually owns his own law firm. I did my internship at Alan L. Frank Law Associates, P.C where I did paralegal and got to witness as well as experience a small amount of attorney work. What goal did i set out?
The goals that I set out were to finish all my work, especially the research projects on time. To make sure that i finished my internship's thirty hours on time and efficently to where i can actually use my experience in my future. As well as
deciding if a law related job is actually right for me. A main goal i set out to accomplish was to get all of my work done and to finish the course with a grade i can be proud of. Did I achieve my goals?
No i did not achieve the goals i wanted to accomplish, atleast not how i wanted them to be achieved. First,my research projects were not turned in on time. They did however, get finished and i did feel as if i did a good job on them. One thing that i did not accomplish that i am not satisfied with was getting my thirty hours of internshiping completed. Being interested in law i really would have liked to accomplish this goal but i did get a chance to go to the law firm for a day and get some experience that could help me with my project and my decision. I have even been talking to Alan Frank about still doing the internship but instead of being for a class project, it will be on my own. So even though i did not get the experience i needed to decide if a law related job is right for me i most likely will get my chance to find out. Specific knowlege i learned:
The specific knowledge i learned was what i would be doing as a paralegal. I was able to learn what a paralegal might do as well as what a paralegal's job is to do, be an aid to the attorney. One main thing that I learned was that paralegal work is a lot of coping and orgainizing paperwork. Most of the
work they do is keep everything organized and keep the attorney up to date on what they have to do, especially informing them of their deadlines. The only thing i mainly was able to learn about attorney's was that most of the work relies on due dates and incorporating evidence into their cases. I was not
able to learn as much about attorneys work because the cases, evidence, and records they were working with were private cases and because i was not authorized to view people private records. My journal contains more information on what I was able to do as a paralegal for my internship. The insight I gained:
The insight that i gained about myself as far as my strengths was that even with little time to do my intership i can still get an experience that made me relized that i could be observant because i realized wether do not i was interested in this field or not for the future. The main insight i realized the most was about my weaknesse. My weaknesse that i relized was that i am not very good at planning things out efficienlty. I was not able to plan out my scedule to were I could work at my job, go to school, and do my internship all at the same time. This project really helpedme realize how much i need to work on my planning skills. I believe that learning that this is one of my main weaknesses can really help me turn this weakness into a personal growth.
What will I take with me from this learning experience?
I will take many experiences with me from this learning experience, but more so from when i go back and do the rest of my hours in my free time to continue to see if this is what i want to do with my life. Getting more experience in this field could really help me decide on my choice of wether or not this is for me . The main thing i will take
from this learning experience is to work on my planning skills. I really need to work on my planning skills, and if i learned anything important from this experience it is this. My planning for the project really affected how i completed this project. Even though not everything that affected my planning was myfault, I
still should have made extra time for myself just in case something like what happened during my time working on this project so that i could still keep on track with what i had to do. I am going to continue to obtain experience in this field even though the project is over. I am glad that in doing this project i relized
a main weakness that i have, planning, and now i can work on making my weakness my strength.
